After a filling
For anyone who has had a tooth-colored filling placed today.
Call us if…
- The filling feels high when you bite, or your bite feels different from before.
- Sensitivity is getting worse rather than better after two weeks.
- It hurts to bite down on that tooth specifically.
- You feel a rough or sharp edge with your tongue.
- A piece of the filling comes away.
Right after
- The composite is fully set before you leave, so you can eat as soon as the numbness has gone.
- Wait for the numbness to wear off — usually one to three hours — before eating anything you have to chew.
- Be careful with hot drinks while your lip and tongue are still numb.
Over the next two weeks
- Cold sensitivity is common, particularly on a deeper filling, and usually settles within a week or two.
- The gum next to the filling can be tender for a day or two if we used a band around the tooth.
- Keep brushing and flossing the tooth normally from today.
